Parkway SleepHealth Centers to Launch Free Insomnia Workshops October 13

(Cary, N.C.) The Triangle’s innovative leader in the comprehensive diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders, Parkway SleepHealth Centers, is launching a series of free insomnia workshops with “Sleep Health & You” October 13 at the Renaissance Raleigh Hotel in North Hills. This session features Parkway Medical Director Khaleel Ahmed, MD, D,ABSM and is designed to give attendees real answers to questions about causes and treatments for insomnia to reclaim healthy rest for a sound mind and body.

“We are a locally owned, one-of-a-kind company with a family atmosphere, dedicated to helping men, women, and children sleep better and live healthier lives,” Dr. Ahmed said, adding, “These free workshops are an essential part of our outreach efforts to help build a healthier community here in the Triangle.”

According to Dr. Ahmed, sleep disorders have a severe, negative impact on an individual’s quality of life, from drains on energy and relationships with family, friends and co-workers.

“Stress is both a trigger and a result, as is depression; roughly half of those with diagnosed depression also have insomnia,” Dr. Ahmed explained, adding, “It’s a contributing factor in anxiety, and cumulatively has a real negative effect on memory, learning, reasoning, reaction time and weight management.”

At the October 13 workshop, Dr. Ahmed and his team of medical specialists will share information on insomnia and sleep health including:

- How to know if your sleep trouble is a cause for medical concern
- The critical connection between sleep and human health
- The affect poor sleep has on child behavior
- What treatments are available to help improve sleep quality
- How chronic insomnia and sleep apnea are defined

The timing of “Sleep Health & You” follows Sleep Apnea Awareness Week October 1-7. Sponsored by the American Sleep Association (ASA), the effort is an annual nationwide educational event to improve American’s knowledge about the symptoms, complications, diagnosis, and treatments of sleep apnea. News media and sleep laboratories around the country will be providing life-saving information every day during Sleep Apnea Awareness Week.

According to the ASA, complications from sleep apnea included an increased risk of motor vehicle accidents, deadly heart rhythms, heart attack, and stroke; decreased physical and mental performance; and increased difficulty managing diabetes and blood pressure.

“Seemingly innocuous things like snoring, headaches and sore throats in the morning, and daytime sleepiness could be signs of a serious medical condition,” Dr. Ahmed said.

Parkway SleepHealth Centers provides an all-inclusive health management solution for men, women, and children suffering from sleep disorders. Working with area physicians referring their patients as well as treating individuals coming to us directly for help, Parkway SleepHealth Centers utilizes a proven effective, compassionate care model for correctly identifying health threats such as obstructive sleep apnea, narcolepsy and insomnia.

In addition to detailed information on how to reclaim a good night’s sleep, “Sleep Health & You” attendees will be able to ask one-on-one questions about their sleep health with Dr. Ahmed and members of Parkway’s credentialed medical staff and even schedule an appointment to be seen by Dr. Ahmed.
