SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- Tom Buss, business development executive and strategic advisor for Integrated Biometrics,
recently spoke on the topic of public safety and military
multibiometric identification tools at the Advanced Biometrics Emerging
Trends and Future Applications Conference in Washington, D.C. The
industry veteran shared insights on new certified fingerprint technology
now available in the marketplace, giving examples of adoption and use
cases discussed and reviewed.
“The emerging trend in Biometric Identification
(and enrollment) devices is to do as much as possible in the field. With
LES (Light Emitting Sensor) fingerprint technology, the future is now
in terms of high-performing, lightweight fingerprint scanning technology
applications for mobile devices” Buss said, adding, “The proof of any
new emerging technology is how well it’s being adopted.”
In his
February 12 presentation, he discussed previous barriers to mobile
certified enrollment and ID devices; detailed the revolutionary smaller,
thinner and lighter technologies for certified fingerprint capture
technology impacting the marketplace; and gave numerous examples of new
platforms that leverage the size and weight advantages of these new
technologies.
Integrated Biometrics is seeing increasing use of
its FBI-compliant LES fingerprint scanners in border control, law
enforcement and national ID efforts, allowing field agents to create an
enrollment of sufficient quality to populate a database from a handheld
device, Buss explained.
The Conference addressed subjects such as
the concept of “super-identity” in physical and cyber spaces using
retina scanning, iris structure, hand geometry, vein structure, voice,
personal touch and keystroke recognition in the context of overcoming
data security obstacles presented by traditional means and the emergence
of new biometric trends.
Buss joined conference speakers from
government organizations, universities, and industry leaders such as the
U.S. Department of Justice, IBM, Experian, Carnegie Mellon University,
and Xerox, among others. His experience includes a 12-year career at
Crossmatch, where he helped guide the company in both the Livescan and
hand held device markets and now directs Integrated Biometrics in the
deployment of their fingerprint capture technologies into new products
for integrators worldwide.
Integrated Biometrics provides
enrollment and verification fingerprint sensors to hardware integrators,
software and database providers, and contractors serving government
agencies and commercial markets worldwide to address issues related to
homeland security, border patrol, law enforcement, background checks,
military and defense, social services, national ID programs and
elections.

About Integrated Biometrics
Integrated
Biometrics provides enrollment and verification fingerprint sensors to
hardware integrators, software and database providers, and contractors
serving government agencies and commercial markets worldwide. More ideal
for mobile environments than traditional silicon or optical sensors,
Integrated Biometrics FBI-certified fingerprint sensors utilize our
durable, patented light emitting sensor (LES) film and work in direct
sunlight on dry or moist fingers, resist abrasion, and are 90-95%
smaller and lighter than optical scanners. Integrated Biometrics offers
the only Appendix F FBI-certified sensor that meets mobility
requirements demanded by end users, solving the major problems of size,
speed, accuracy and durability. Find out more online at www.integratedbiometrics.com/connect/.
