NEW YORK, N.Y. -- The Original 1-800-Charity Cars, America’s #1 car donation charity, is bringing back what Billboard called an “inane earworm of a jingle” with a parody radio ad to raise the important issue of donating cars to legitimate nonprofits during the holiday season to help those in need. The new radio ad parodies an infamous old jingle which the San Francisco Gate named "the most annoying song of all time" in an article about the history of the ad and its controversial fundraising organization that created it.
“We’re not the organization responsible for the old jingle, but so many people recognize it we thought we’d have some fun with it while making an important point,” said Brian Menzies, 1-800-Charity Cars CEO, adding, “It’s part of a serious effort to raise awareness of how to separate legitimate car donation programs from scammers taking advantage of proud New Yorkers.”
Menzies, a native New Yorker, is always humbled by the giving nature of people in the greater New York City metropolitan area, especially around Christmas which is always the busiest time for his award-winning nationwide 501(c)(3) nonprofit. “It’s the greatest city in the world, and by far the biggest source of car donations for us at 1-800-Charity Cars to help those in need transition into self-sufficiency,” he explained.
The 60-second radio ad from 1-800-Charity Cars is running on multiple New York area radio stations throughout December. Listeners will recognize the ad by its guitar strumming and familiar melody, similar in annoyance to the old jingle, before it quickly transitions into laughter and a narrator explaining how people can donate their used vehicles to 1-800-Charity Cars.
